Overview

Committed to giving back to our communities at Runwal, we have always believed in empowering our communities with various initiatives that we undertake. With the very focus of giving back to society, we help in improving the quality of life of the communities we serve. We aim to facilitate socio-cultural development by addressing various social issues or coming together to help those in need. From facilitating education to providing medical care, from women empowerment to community building, from contributing to the disaster relief funds to building hostels for those in need, we are always there to lend a helping hand. Runwal Education Foundation is a charity body formed in 1938. As a man from humble beginnings, Subhash Runwal, describes his journey as challenging and was made easier with a little help.

Hence, at Runwal, we believe it is time for all of us to come together and protect humanity by acting responsibly.

Mr. Subhash S. Runwal founded Subhash Runwal Education Foundation in the year of 1983, a public charitable trust registered with Charity Commissioner - Greater Mumbai Region, Maharashtra under the registration no. E9349 Mumbai.

The Main Objectives of this Trust are:

  • Charitable objects of the general social responsibilities.

The Groups CSR strategy straddles across Education, Healthcare, Community building, Women empowerment and Disaster relief. Here are a few efforts that exemplify their strong desire to give back to the society and nation for an inclusive growth:

Education

Education is the most powerful tool that can change the world.Every year, the foundation gives scholarships to over 150 students, and to date has reached more than 500 students through Rs. 5 crores.The foundation is a key contributor at UN Raisoni Vidyalaya in Jalgaon, where more than 2000 children receive education every year. The foundation has also generously donated to students pursuing IAS, IPS, etc, and to those who want pursue higher education overseas. Every year, we give scholarships to 2 students for their studies in IIM Banglore.

Healthcare

Runwal is conscious of the imperative need for contributing to preventive and curative healthcare facilities especially for the underprivileged sections of the society. Therefore, The Foundation also generously donates to various charitable activities.

  • Born and brought up in Dhule, Mr. Runwal has never forgotten his Janmabhumi. The Group donated a cardiac ambulance, equipped with machines imported from Germany. It traverses the remotest tribal areas to bring about timely intervention.
  • In 2012, the first-ever ‘Vision Vehicle’ was donated to the Mahavir International Foundation Trust, Dhule, to serve the people of the region along with Nandurbar and Jalgaon districts. The vehicle is equipped with the most modern instruments and is manned by experienced doctors, who conduct eye camps and perform surgeries at the nearest hospitals. Consecutively, 2 more were rolled out. They also provide spectacles and medicines to those in need. School children and the elderly are specifically assisted to ensure that none of them become victims of labor due to poor vision. Dhule Netra Chikitsalay tied up with Sharda Netra Chikitsalay through Mahavir International to facilitate this campaign. The Runwal group donates Rs 5 lakh for the upkeep of this activity every year. Another Vision Vehicle was donated to the Lions Club of Mumbai which is attached to Dr. Wavikar’s Hospital.
  • The foundation has contributed significantly to the construction of a cancer hospital in Amravati. Along with Akhil Bharatiya Marwadi Yuva Manch and Global Marwadi Charitable Foundation, it has donated Cancer mobile van, along with investments in mobile dialysis centre. With JITO(Ghatkopar) the Group has set up a dialysis centre in Rajawadi Hospital.
  • The foundation has contributed Rupees One Crore fifty lacs to Shraman Arogyam of JITO (Jain International Trading Organisation), which provides free of cost of medical care to around 14,000 Jain Sadhus and Sadhvis.
  • Likewise, the Trust has also contributed Rupees One Crore fifty lacs to JATF (Jain Administrative Training Foundation).
  • Recently donated, 77 lacs to NAMCO hospital at Nashik for Cancer ward.

Community Building & Women empowerment

‘Without a sense of caring, there is no sense of community.’ For sustainable and holistic community development, the group clearly recognises that the society’s economic competitiveness is linked to its social health.

  • One to always enable his people and community, Mr. Runwal was President of Bharat Jain Mahamandal. In his capacity as a leader and influencer, he helmed the celebration of Bhagwan Mahavir Swamiji’s 2600th birthday. The occasion was graced by former Prime Minister Shri. Atal Bihari Vajpayee as the Chief Guest. Also present were former Governor of Maharashtra, Mr. Alexander and former CM, Mr. Vilasrao Deshmukh.
  • Since 2006, it has been conducting the Shri. Sammedh Shikarji Yatras every year, which are free of cost and are exclusive for those who cannot afford this sacred pilgrimage. Over 1700 Jains have benefitted through this initiative so far.
  • Further, the Group has constructed a Jain Sthanak in Dhule.
  • The Group represents their support and timely contribution to various other organisations such as MargDarshak, Lions Club, JITO, Bharat Jain Mahamandal, Akhil Bhartiya Jain Sthanakwasi conference, Oswal Utkarsh Mandal, and more.
  • Mr. Runwal had been blessed with the rare opportunity of honouring the function of the 201-day fast for Tapasvi Samrat Sahajmuniji MS in Khar, Mumbai as Swagat Adhyaksha.
  • Mrs. Chanda Runwal too actively participates in the betterment of the community. Her firm belief that women need to participate equitably in the economic progress has led her to contribute immensely in the upliftment of women.
  • She is the first President of the Jain International Women’s Organisation (JIWO) and also active in the Jain Sakhi Manch, both of which are women’s organisation, which enable and empower women to become independent.
  • She was President, Lioness Club of Vasant Vihar and helped the enablement of the disabled and physically challenged. She is also associated with in Lions Club and Lioness Club activities, Isha Foundation (a Times of India NGO), All India Sthanakwasi Jain Mahamandal (Ladies wing), Indian Merchant Chambers and Rajasthani Mahila Mandal.
  • As a part of her several initiatives to uplift women, she donated sewing machines to ladies. Support was also extended to the handicapped by making provision for over 200 tricycles.

Supporting the government

The Group has also substantially contributed to the Prime Minister’s relief fund, the Chief Minister’s drought relief fund, and the Mayor’s fund that impacted the lives of millions in the hour of need and beyond.

Mr. Subhash Runwal is the Managing Trustee of Subhash Runwal Education Foundation. His primary aim is to promote and assist in the Education, Medical and Social services.

  • Since 2008 the Foundation has established the R-Girl’s hostel at Ghodbunder Road, Thane, where 80 girls are residing and there is always a waiting list for taking admission.
  • In 2013 the Foundation has constructed the R-Boy’s hostel at Nerul – A four storied building having a total area of more than 1858 sq.mt, to accommodate 150 students. Providing them with the best of the amenities like wi-fi, gymnasium, library, indoor games, etc. Both the hostels provide facilities at highly subsidised rates – the Group contributes for the running and maintenance of the hostels.
  • Runwal Stays is one-of-a-kind initiative aimed at giving all our front line runners a safe, secure, and fully equipped stay option. At Runwal Stays, we take care of lodging along with food arrangement too; ensuring the front line runners can focus on what matters - Saving Lives.

Over the years, the Runwal has been recognised for its efforts towards leaving a dent in the world of real estate and society. A few of the awards it has received in the recent past are:

  • Mr. Runwal received the Samaj Ratna Award by former President Pratibhatai Patil for his contributions towards various social activities for the upliftment of the needy, in the year 2012.
  • Mrs. Chanda Runwal has been the recipient of several recognitions like Nari Ratna Award by former CM Prithviraj Chavan, Janki Devi Award, and Dr. Manibhai Desai Award for her service to the Jain community. She has also received the Mayor’s Award and her efforts have been recognised and appreciated by The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai.
  • Mr. Subhash Runwal was conferred with Jain Samaj Ratna in the year 2013 by former CM Prithviraj Chavan.
  • Mr. Runwal was felicitated with the G D Birla Lifetime Achievement award in the year 2014.
  • In the year 2013, Maharashtra Gaurav Award for social work was given by Maharashtra Gujarat Samaj Mahamandal.
  • Received Jain Ratna Award in 2010 from former Prime Minister , Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee
  • Samaj Bhushan & Saraswati Bhushan award received from Jain Kelwani Mandal in 2011
  • JITO Excellence award from Ajit Rangnekar, Dean of Indian School of Business, Hyderabad in 2012

At Runwal Stays, we take care of lodging along with food arrangement too; ensuring the front line runners can focus on what matters - Saving Lives.

The RUNWAL FOUNDATION proudly dedicates its third hostel in Kalamboli, Navi Mumbai, an educational hub in the city. This modern hostel spans approximately 40,000 sq. ft. and can accommodate 280 students, offering all the latest amenities.
